Carry-on baggage 2026: size and weight limits for Wizz Air, Ryanair, Turkish Airlines and other airlines
Checked in November 2026. Rules change often, so check the airline’s website and your ticket before you fly.
Almost all airlines distinguish between two items: a personal item, which goes under the seat in front of you, and a cabin bag, which goes in the overhead compartment. With low-cost airlines, the fare usually includes only the first.
Allowances by airline
- Wizz Air: one free bag measuring 40x30x20 cm, weighing up to 10 kg, to go under the seat. With WIZZ Priority, you can also bring a cabin bag measuring 55x40x23 cm, weighing up to 10 kg.
- Ryanair: one free small bag measuring 40x30x20 cm, to go under the seat. With Priority & 2 Cabin Bags, you can also bring a bag measuring 55x40x20 cm, weighing up to 10 kg.
- Turkish Airlines, Economy Class: one bag measuring 55x40x23 cm, weighing up to 8 kg, and one personal item measuring 40x30x15 cm, weighing up to 4 kg.
- LOT: one bag measuring 55x40x23 cm, weighing up to 8 kg, and one personal item weighing up to 2 kg, to go under the seat.
- Lufthansa: Economy Light and above include one bag measuring 55x40x23 cm, weighing up to 8 kg, and one personal item measuring 40x30x15 cm. Economy Basic includes only the personal item.
- TAROM: 8 kg in total, including the personal item. On Boeing aircraft, the bag can measure 55x40x20 cm; on ATR 72 aircraft, only 35x30x20 cm.
- FlyOne: one bag measuring 40x30x20 cm. With FlyOne Moldova, it can weigh up to 7 kg.

Why a few centimetres matter
At the gate, your bag may be placed in a baggage sizer. If it doesn’t fit, you’ll usually pay much more than you would have at booking. Ryanair’s gate fee for an oversized bag can reach 70-75 euros, and FlyOne’s can exceed 100 euros.
How to avoid a fee
- Measure your bag, including the wheels and handles.
- Check your fare, not just the airline: different fares on the same flight can have different rules.
- If you need a cabin bag, add it when you book.
- A soft bag is more likely to fit in the sizer than a hard-shell one.
- Prepare your liquids and power bank in advance: separate rules apply.
What’s changing in the EU
Regulation (EU) 2026/2202 applies from 23 October 2027. From then on, one personal item measuring no more than 40x30x15 cm, or small enough to fit under the seat, can be taken on board free of charge. Larger cabin baggage won’t become free: the airline will accept it if there’s room, and sets the price itself.
The claim that “7 kg will be free across Europe” isn’t true: the text mentions neither 7 kg nor 100 cm. Until then, each airline’s rules apply.
When you search for a flight on allvigo, you can see which baggage is included with each option.
